Republican Adam Hinojosa Secures Major Endorsements in SD 27 Rematch

Governor Abbott, Texans for Lawsuit Reform Back Hinojosa’s Campaign Against State Senator Morgan LaMantia

Republican State Senate candidate Adam Hinojosa, seeking a rematch against Democrat State Senator Morgan LaMantia, has announced major endorsements over the last few weeks, demonstrating his significant momentum in the campaign.

In 2022, Hinojosa earned 49.81% of the vote in his race against LaMantia for State Senate District 27. The South Texas Senate District encompasses all of Bee, Cameron, Kenedy, Kleberg, San Patricio, and Willacy counties and portions of Hidalgo and Nueces counties.

Earlier this month, Governor Greg Abbott endorsed Hinojosa and lauded him as an ally on issues such as border security and school choice.

“As a fourth generation Texan, Adam Hinojosa understands what it takes to keep Texas the land of freedom and opportunity,” said Governor Abbott. “Adam is a conservative champion who will help ensure we continue to cut property taxes, back the blue, and fight back against the Biden-Harris Administration’s reckless open border policies. He will work tirelessly to protect our children from radical leftist policies in our schools and will be a crucial partner in expanding school choice for every Texas family in the next legislative session. I urge all Texans in Senate District 27 to join me in supporting Adam Hinojosa to be their next State Senator.”

Texans for Lawsuit Reform’s Political Action Committee issued an endorsement of Hinojosa this week, focusing on his business background and support of conservative economic policies. The endorsement, which is expected to come with significant financial support, highlighted Hinojosa’s entrepreneurial background. Hinojosa operates five small businesses in Corpus Christi.

“TLRPAC supports candidates who understand that a fair and efficient legal system is a critical pillar of the Texas Miracle, which has made Texas the eighth largest economy in the world,” TLR President and General Counsel Lee Parsley said on behalf of TLRPAC. “A successful entrepreneur and job creator, Adam understands that abusive lawsuits kill opportunities for Texas families. He is committed to common-sense economic principles, like keeping our courts fair, cutting taxes and ensuring our students are ready to compete in the workforce so our communities can thrive. TLRPAC is proud to support him.”

LaMantia is serving her first term in the Texas Senate. She was first elected in 2022, succeeding longtime Democrat State Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr.

During his long tenure in the Texas Senate, Lucio established himself as a conservative Democrat who often voted with Republicans on bills related to abortion and other social issues. Lucio is also a vocal supporter of school choice.

Prior to her election to the State Senate, LaMantia had a history of making political contributions to both Republicans and Democrats that led some observers to believe she might establish herself as a conservative Democrat in the mold of Senator Lucio.

However, once elected to the State Senator, LaMantia had a liberal voting record in line with the other members of the Democratic caucus.

LaMantia’s liberal voting record, especially on border security and protecting Texas children, is playing a central role in her rematch against Hinojosa.

On border security, LaMantia opposed legislation to spend $1.54 billion on additional border security measures, including physical barriers. LaMantia also opposed legislation that created criminal offenses related to illegal entry and illegal reentry into Texas.

Although Lucio frequently voted with Republicans on social issues that he said reflected the values of Senate District 27, LaMantia voted against major legislation that banned child gender modificationbanned pornographic books in schools, and prohibited men from competing in women’s sports

Members of LaMantia’s family have invested heavily in her re-election, loaning her campaign an additional $1.75 million during the first half of this year. LaMantia’s most recent campaign finance report shows an outstanding loan balance of $6.915 million, which includes loans from her 2022 campaigns.
